This blog is dedicated to all the cricket players who left broken heart because of their cracked bat.The amateurs might feel cheated, that they purchased defective bat , may be its not genuine etc etc.
So what actually a broken bat tells us?Is this a manufacturing defect ?Is this a faulty action? Is it willow/wood? Is it really really fast bowler in action that ruined my bat?
First thing first, cricket bats are made up of "woods" ,no matter which wood i.e"English Willow" or "Kashmir Willow",they won't stay forever and manufacturers might gave you statement "We are selling you wood and not iron bat".In fact it is right on there part.Cricket bats are not designed to last forever and do not come with any guarantee of duration.
Now why they break?
1) If your bat is an "English Willow" cricket bat and before using it you didn't knock and oil it properly, it will break or cracks would be seen, for sure.
Why this happens? "English Willow" is very soft as compare to "Kashmir Willow" and needs "proper" knocking.
2) If the player is trying to hit a speeding ball from the edge ,it can damage the edge of bat. This is considered the faulty action .

Edge (of E.W. Bat) is used for hitting the speeding ball |
3)If during the practice session or in club or in academies pitch or grounds is very hard(may be cemented pitch) and bat is tapped on pitch with force, this might leads to crack on the toe of cricket bat.
Now there can be situations where the ball has hit right at the sweet spot(where it is expected to be) and even then the bat torn into 2 pieces. This is a major incident and needs to be reported to manufacturer.Manufacturer will check this and based on there discretion they might replace the bat.
Handle is most important part of cricket bat and needs to be of good quality.Handles of most of the branded bats does comes under warranty .Any breakage should be replaced or repaired by manufacturers .
